We are proud to announce the acquisition of BIG FISH for the opening of our 2014-15 season. With the trickle down rate to high schools from Broadway at about 8 years, we are indeed fortunate to be able to present it to Santa Barbara audiences this soon. We began our relationship with Theatrical Rights Worldwide in 2013 when we were one of the first high schools to produce SPAMALOT, and the huge success of that production went a long way to helping us secure the rights (in fact, our production pictures now grace the TRW website page for SPAMALOT production requests)
Big Fish opens our season November 13th and plays through the 16th, for a limited one weekend engagement with choreography by Jessica Hambright, Musical Direction by Jon Nathan, and Costumes by Bonnie Thor. It will be directed by long time Artistic Director Otto Layman, now in his 19th year at the helm of SBHS theatre.
Big Fish is a new Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by Tony nominee Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party) and a new book by esteemed screenwriter John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward's incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.
Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, BIG FISH is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that's richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.
